They also declared support for the embattled Gboyega Oguntuase-led State Executive Committee in the state.
The elders dissociated themselves from the purported stakeholders meeting, which had earlier declared the Senate Minority Whip, Senator Biodun Olujimi, as the party leader.
The elders called on PDP members to apply caution to avoid the fragmentation of the party in the state.
Rising from a meeting held in Ijesa-Isu, Ekiti, the elders expressed concern about the various factional meetings held by members, saying it does not augur well for the party’s cohesion.

Daily Trust OnlineTuesday, November 13, 2018How civil servants return to posts after losing primariesSome civil servants, who contested and lost out in the party primaries recently conducted by political parties, have returned to their positions, Daily Trust reports.
This has ignited a raging debate whether civil servants who lose primary elections can return to their former positions in the civil service.
But a civil servant, who contested for the governorship seat in his state, said a Supreme Court ruling had given them the go ahead to participate in politics, insisting that they could only retire from service after winning the primaries ahead of the real elections.
Idris Mamman Durkwa, a Director at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, who lost out during gubernatorial primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State, said the law was explicit on civil servants and politics.

Daily Trust OnlineTuesday, November 13, 2018Atiku hasn’t used, dumped any group – CoalitionA Coalition of Atiku Support Groups (CASG) has said the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has never used and dumped any support group as being rumoured by “smear campaigners.”
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, leader of the Coalition, Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba said it was foolhardy for any genuine support group to allege being used and dumped by Atiku, when the main campaign has not started.
“INEC has not even lifted ban on campaigns. A rational thinking person can only allege to have been used and dumped if he or she was assigned a specific task during the campaign and the assigned task was well carried out and still the entire campaign ended, he or she is not compensated in any way for the job well-done.
“Before the PDP presidential primary, Atiku always inform leaders of support groups that he would not be able to sponsor support groups before the primary because the full attention then was on how to get delegates elect him as PDP presidential flag-bearer. However, he always add that there are plans for support groups,” he said.

The Guardian.ngTuesday, November 13, 2018EFCC gets ultimatum to probe GandujeThe Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to begin an investigation into bribery allegations against Kano State Governor Umar Ganduje.
Videos online purport to show the governor taking bribes on different occasions.
Yesterday, a Kano High Court restrained the state House of Assembly from further investigating the matter pending the determination of the originating summons. It adjourned hearing till November 21, 2018.
The umbrella organisation of all registered political parties said: “The burden of proof that the President Muhammadu Buhari government is covering corrupt members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is heavier now with the Federal Government’s continued silence over the allegations against the governor.”
In a statement by CNPP Secretary General Willy Ezugwu, the organisation stated: “We are left to believe that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari and the EFCC under Mr. Ibrahim Magu only fight corruption in states with opposition leadership. Not a few Nigerians have argued that the APC is a hiding place for corrupt politicians and a cover for looters who want respite from the anti-graft agencies under the current Federal Government.
“We are totally behind the position of the state House of Assembly that the courts cannot stop it from carrying out its legislative duties and urge the lawmakers to conclude the investigation without fear or favour.
"It is shocking that instead of taking advantage of the fair hearing offered the governor by the state Assembly, Governor Ganduje chose to approach the court to stop the probe.
“Even when the Assembly offered the governor the liberty to appear before its seven-man investigative panel, the governor chose the dishonourable path by going for a black market order from the Kano State High Court, instead of proving his innocence before the committee."

The Guardian.ngMonday, November 12, 2018Senate condemns Buhari’s blame-game on budget delayThe Senate has condemned the shifting of blames to the National Assembly over delay in passing the national budget every year.In a statement yesterday by its Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi, the upper legislative chamber advised the Presidency to desist from playing politics with sensitive issues like the budgeting process.
Olujimi noted that a recent statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari blaming the National Assembly for the delay in the passage of the Appropriation Act every year was not only unfortunate, but shows that the Executive arm is not saying the truth.
The statement reads: “The President himself in June this year expressed surprise during a meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly when he was confronted with the fact that ministers and heads of other agencies have refused to defend the budget proposals of their ministries and agencies before legislative committees.
“On that occasion, the President stated that the information was contrary to what he was told by his aides before coming for the meeting. The published INEC list has Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, as the (APC) governorship candidate for Delta State in the 2019 election.
Utomi said the alleged breach of the rule of law by the party and INEC was an indication the party has given up on Delta State.
Utomi stated: “It was in view of these brazen breaches of rule of law that the US Ambassador recently raised concerns and noted that undermining the rule of law is worst offence than corruption.
“What happened in Asaba and was regarded as governorship primary by the Jones Erue faction, which produced Great Ogboru as candidate was a complete farce.
“What happened in Asaba that day was treasonable felony that should be prosecuted, or else it becomes a precedent of contempt of the rule of law, also considering the security and international image implications of what happened, I decided to challenge it in Court."

She also urged political leaders especially those seeking elective positions to prevail on their supporters and followers to eschew violence in any form as campaigns for various elective positions begin this weekend.
Waziri who spoke while fielding questions from journalists at the sideline of an event in Victoria Island, Lagos, at the weekend, said the country needs peace and unity to have a successful 2019 elections.
She stated: “For me, I believe the elections will hold as scheduled. My only concern is the level of toxicity in the statements of some political leaders. This is not really good for the polity especially now that election campaigns will formally begin in a matter of days from now. So, this is the time for every patriotic political leader, most especially those aspiring for offices and who will be going round to mobilise the people, to avoid hate speech capable of inciting their followers and supporters to violence.
“We cannot afford to set the country on fire with our words because if country is set ablaze and the people are killed, there is no other Nigeria in Europe, America or Asia to call our country, and there will be no citizens to lead and govern. I think the people will be more interested in their plans, programmes and agenda than toxic words that breed violence.”

“Niger Delta region, having exhaustively deliberated the historic struggles of our people over the years for a fair and equitable Nigeria, resolved that, “Defective federal structure and unjust laws are responsible for the underdevelopment of the region
“For Nigeria to make progress, there must be holistic political, economic, and social restructuring of the country. We demand complete resource control by the federating units of the country and payment of tax to the centre in a restructured Nigeria.

Senators had converged for plenary at about 11.am when Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who led the brief session, announced that there was need to suspend plenary for the APU event.

The chairman, Sen. Abdul’Aziz Nyako, made the call in a statement yesterday. Nyako had paid an oversight visit to the Special Duties Office (SDO) on Tuesday at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
The visit, he said, was to keep abreast of the performance and the implementation of the 2017 budget.Lamenting the delay in the release of funds, which he claimed had jeopardised the functions of the office in terms of monitoring and inspection of Federal Executive Council (FEC)-approved projects and constituency projects, the senator stated that this could amount to undue pressure on the part of management.
He applauded the management for utilising the little resources allocated to the office while encouraging them to put in their best in the implementation of projects, noting that this year’s release was lower than last year’s, as only 10 per cent of the budget was released recently.

ThisDaylive OnlineMonday, November 5, 2018INEC: Why We Accepted List of APC Candidates from Rivers"The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that it collected the list of candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State because there was no court order or judgment barring it from doing so.
The Supreme Court had on October 22, 2018, descended on the Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Appeal for granting an application in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in respect of the conduct of the party’s congresses in the state.

It was further told that the manipulation was being planned by some persons within its ranks.

ThisDaylive OnlineFriday, November 2, 2018APC Crisis: Court Issues Contempt Notice on Oshiomhole, INEC Chairman"The Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State, has issued a contempt notice on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole and the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, over what it termed disobedience to court orders.
The court said Oshiomhole disobeyed its order not to submit the list of Delta APC candidates to INEC, while Yakubu disobeyed its order not to receive and publish such candidates’ names from Delta State for the 2019 general elections until the resolution of the case.
The court noted that despite its order dated October 17, 2018, Oshiomhole still went ahead to submit names of purported National Assembly candidates from Delta APC to INEC and that INEC also went ahead to receive and publish such names even when the order directed both parties in the case not to do so but to maintain “status quo.”
Recall that Chief Cyril Ogodo-led executive of the APC in Delta State, had dragged the APC, Oshiomhole, INEC and one other to court in a suit, with No: FA/ASB/CS/76/2018, over the issue of the authentic list of candidates that emerged from the parallel primaries conducted in the state through the two contending State Executives in the state."

He added that Nigerians have come to a realisation that a victory for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 is an existential threat not only to the peaceful coexistence of the country, but also to individual wellbeing and survival of families, breadwinners and jobs across the country.
Okupe’s reaction was as a result of Tinubu’s comment on Atiku’s chances ahead the presidential election slated for February 16, 2019. According to him, the APC leader’s comment on Atiku’s prospect are essentially not meant for the serious minded, and quite unexpected from the leader of a party in power whose popularity and national acceptability are receding faster than the waters of lake Chad.
The statement reads in part: “Tinubu’s statement is extremely presumptuous. It assumes that he as a person or whatever political platform he stands on will have anything to do with who emerges as president in 2019.
“I assure Tinubu that he does not, and will not have any serious influence on who will emerge as president after the 2019 elections. He had such opportunity in 2015 but it was wasted on a moribund, unproductive and lackluster presidency."""

The Guardian.ngThursday, November 1, 20182019 Elections: Traditional Rulers Express Concern over Security in Local Communities"As Nigeria prepares for the 2019 general election, traditional rulers from the Southern part of Nigeria have raised concerns on ensuring free, fair and violence-free polls, mostly as they relate to safety and security of lives and property in local communities during and after the election.
Arising from the second consultation meeting of National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) South-South and South-east chapter held on October 30 in Benin-city, Edo State, the monarchs arrived at a common ground that if local communities are secure, Nigeria at large would be secure and save too.
Speaking at the event, the chief sponsor of event, the Eleme of Eleme Kingdom, Rivers State, Dr. Appolus Chu, said the meeting was a platform where the traditional rulers from the South-south and South-east regions would come together and speak with one voice on policies that would move the country forward mostly on security issues.
According to him, “Today, the main issue will be to look at ways of ensuring a violence-free 2019 general elections. Aside that, we are going to look at other areas of common interest and grounds where the traditional rulers from the Southern part of Nigeria would come together and rub minds.
“We have touched the area of violence-free election as well as collaborations among our various communities. The whole essence is to ensure that traditional rulers rise up to their responsibilities to ensure that live are protected in our communities and that things are done the right way during the forthcoming general election.”"

The Guardian.ngThursday, November 1, 2018Court Should be Circumspect in Giving Orders, Says INEC"The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pleaded with the courts to be circumspect in terms of the orders and judgments they give ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The commission said that conflicting court order and judgments create more problem for the commission.
INEC’s National Commissioner on Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Festus Okoye told THISDAY Wednesday that the policy of INEC and the law and the constitution mandated INEC to only accept the list submitted and signed by the national chairman and national secretary of the political party.
But, he also stated categorically that the policy of the commission is to submit to the rule of law and due process at all times, stressing that the electoral body would always give effect to the judgments and orders made by properly constituted rule of law.
Okoye stated: “In relation to the PDP in Ogun State, the court made very specific orders that the INEC should accept only the list submitted by a particular faction of the PDP in Ogun State. That order was served on the INEC; there has not been any vacation; no court has vacated that order and since no court has vacated those orders.”
“The INEC as a law abiding institution will accept that particular list. We are accepting those lists based on the orders of a properly constituted court of law and that’s where we stand in relation to that.”"
